Standard and Poors downgraded the nation's credit for the first time in history late last week. It says the deficit reduction plan passed by Congress did not go far enough to stabilize the country's debt situation. Following S and P’s decision to downgrade the country’s credit rating from Triple A to Double A plus, Senator Richard Burr issued a statement. He said clearly, what we have done so far is not enough and now is the time to make meaningful cuts in spending, reform our entitlement programs, and simplify our tax code.
Why are cuts in areas such as Arts, Stupid research (Grandparents in Alaska are only interesting to Alaskans), every cause and foreign country or town known, and other absolutely ridiculous causes so hard to cut? How about getting rid of 32 czars and their offices and staff? Just how many "Secretary of the ... can there be? (Not to mention all the "Deputy Secretary of ..."). No more government vehicles!! Why are one term legislators allowed lifetime benefits?Who pays for that? A million here, a billion there, and it begins to add up. Pet projects are notorious on both sides of the isle. The internet can expose a lot more than the media ever dared to. As a voter, I intend to educate myself and encourage others to do the same before next year. I hope I can count on you to do what is right for this Great State and Nation.
